We pulled off a Jailbreak!
Congratulations to 17-year-old
Michael Hiscock from Winchester, TN, for being the fastest individual through
the mud burdened course.
Carolyn
Xanders of Nashville was the fastest female. Both have been
given a handcrafted
canoe-shaped keepsake box.
Attendance was great; we had 176
participants. We were able to donate $1200 from the proceeds of the
event to the Regional Intervention Program toward assisting families
with their kid’s development.
A big thanks goes out to the 30
Columbia Cycling Club members who worked hard to make this happen.
This race was also assisted by about 5 Maury County Civil Defense
personnel, 10 Jail Trustees, 5 RIP employees, 9 canoe folks, and 4
members of the Maury Amateur Radio Club.
I would like to recognize others who
donated toward this event in other ways:
- Rick Grief, an Ironman from
Huntsville, for designing the Jailbreak logo
- Extension Staffing (Patrick Wigley)
of Nashville for donating two vans
- YMCA of Columbia for donating two
vans, a bullhorn, and the use of their shower facilities for the mud
covered participants
- Krispy Kreme of Nashville for
donating donuts for the volunteers
- K-mart and True Value in Columbia
for the landscape timbers used for steps
- Piggly Wiggly (Jody Shaw) of
Columbia for discounting some food items for us
- Jerry Elder of Columbia for donating
the use of his sound equipment
- ABBA Graphics of Hohenwald for
donating the brochures
We received several nice comments, here
are some of them…
“This was my first triathlon, and
because I had so much fun not my last…everyone was very nice.” Jeff Watts,
Starkville, MS
“I really enjoyed the race. My
partner and I already have committed to doing it again next year.
Please continue it. Thanks.” - Garrett Asher, Nashville
“I would like to thank you, the
Columbia Cycling Club and all the sponsors and volunteers for putting
on such a unique event…When my wave started and the paddle hit the
water I got a big smile on my face that I was still wearing when I got
back to Huntsville.” Randall Phillips, Huntsville
“Had a blast and look forward to
next year!” Treg Warner, Nashville
“The format for all three events
were excellent in my opinion - regardless of river and trail
conditions - it was a good equalizer for all athletes.” Paul
Martin, Canada
“As in the past, the Columbia
Cycling group and yourself have done a great job at organizing this
event!” David Heise, Franklin, TN
“I thought the race was a blast!
Sure, it would have been a faster ride and run if the trail was dry
but I thought the mud made it fun! I truly hope you guys do it again
next year. When I told some of my friends about it, they all wished
they had signed up…Please, Please, Please have it again next year!”
Tommy Brown, Nashville
“A good, hard downpour during the
race would have made an already great course PERFECT.” Patrick
Bair, Nashville (founder of Nashville Adventure Racers)
“Although during the event I was
swearing I would never do an off-road triathlon again, I find myself
enjoying telling everyone how hard it was and showing them my
injuries.” Bob Boer, Nashville
“We had an absolute blast!”
Shawyn Barton, Helena, AL
