  Chickasaw Trace Classic
2011 Results 2012 Info Here!

The Columbia Cycling Club has conducted the Chickasaw Trace Classic Mountain Bike since 1996. This race is held in late March and is one of the initial races of the regional MTB race season. The Chickasaw Trace Classic is sanctioned by USA Cycling and officiated by a Tennessee Bicycle Racing Association (TBRA) official. Placing in the top ten in a race category will earn points toward the Tennessee Mountain Series and USAC rankings. This race is also an AMBC event which gives higher ranking points in the USAC rankings.

The race course is a nine mile single track loop at Chickasaw Trace County Park, 1415 New Hwy 7, Columbia, TN.

The 16th Annual on March 27, 2011 experienced a big drop with only 93 racers.  The rain threat was small; the trails were a little slick.  We were not included in Gone Riding’s SERC series this year.  Vicki Mackzum scored the race.  Duane Leach took over as director.  The course started in front of the cabin, took the steep hill toward the convenience center and entered into the woods at the nearby graveyard sign.  Nathan Guerra of Oconomoc, Wisconsin prevailed in the men’s pro race by 16 seconds over Cory Rimmer of Friendship, TN.  Kiersta Tucker of Custer, KY was the lone racer among Cat 1 women.  Results are at TBRA  Pictures are at Webshots

The 15th Annual on March 28, 2010 was another mudfest.  The rain came down relentlessly the night before the race and the trails were even muddier than the 2008 race.  Racers were covered in mud.  There were 191 in attendance which was the lowest in six years.  Thomas Turner of Canton, Georgia topped the pro men’s race with a time of 2:16:24.  He finished 5 minutes ahead of second place, Seth Kemp, and 7 ½ minutes ahead of third place, Alex Ryan.  Turner was the winner of this race in 2007 as well.  Kim Flynn of Chattanooga prevailed by 2 ½ minutes over teammate Anina Aaron of Oak Ridge, NC, in the pro/Cat 1 women’s race.  Results are at Gone Riding.  Pictures at Webshots.

Our 14th annual event held on March 29, 2009 had some rain leading up to the event, but race day was dry, windy and cold. The trails were good with only a few wet spots, but attendance of 281 racers was below expectations. The race returned to being a Gone-Riding SERC series event after a one-year absence. Due to a new under-the-bridge trail section, the start and finished changed and excluded the paved road and steep downhill. The course measured 9.3-miles. Riding a 29” bike, Sam Koerber of Ashville, NC won the pro race by over 3 minutes over Greg Lewis and Thomas Turner. World Champion 45-year-old Shelly Allen of Pinellas Park, FL won the women’s Pro/Cat 1 race by over two minutes over Kim Flynn. Results are at Gone-Riding. Pictures are at Frambach and Webshots

Our 13th annual event on March 30, 2008 was preceded by an unlucky downpour of rain on Saturday.  It prevented pre-riding and discouraged many from coming.  We had 252 riders and only 3 in the kid's race.  The weather for race day was pleasant, but the trails were slick and muddy.  Andy Johnston won the pro race and earned $500.  Sixteen-year-old Seth Kemp of Campobello, SC, finished a fraction of a second behind according to the chip time on the ankle.  Amanda Sprout of Columbus, OH, topped the Pro/Expert Women's race by four minutes. Results are Here.  Original Posted Results are here:  1 Lap, 2 Lap, 3 Lap.  Pictures are at Frambach and Webshots.  And pictures by Jason Martin of Oxford, MS that include downhill spills.

Our 12th annual event held on March 25, 2007, brought 365 racers plus 17 in the free kid’s race. This year we added the Alison Dunlap Junior Olympic Mountain Bike Series to our list of events. We subdivided the junior categories and added additional races to match this series’ divisions and medals. Thomas Turner of Canton, Georgia, won the Men’s Pro division by 97 seconds over 2005 winner, Andy Johnston. Jamie Dinkins of Powell, Tennessee, won by 3 ½ minutes over a field of 18 combined Pro and Expert women. Results are here. Pictures are here.

Our 11th annual event held on March 26, 2006 brought 345 racers plus 12 in the free kid's race.  We had 22 racers in the Men's Pro/Semi-Pro Class and we paid a total of $1,072 to the top half.  Michael Simonson from Oxford, Michigan won by 28 seconds over last year's defending champion, Andy Johnston.  We had four Pro/Semi-Pro's among the 14 Expert Women and we paid a total of $492 to the top eight.  Krista Park from Dacula, Georgia won by almost two minutes.  Results are here.  Professional photos by Eric Bryant are here.  Our photos are here.

Our 10th annual event held on March 20, 2005, was highlighted by perfect weather and a great trail by many accounts.  This year's race was the first of the TBRA races, second of the SERC series, and the fourth AMBC race.  We had 342 racers.  Results are here Our photos.

Our 9th annual race held on March 28, 2004 was a big success for our club.  We stepped up to be an AMBC event and Gone Riding added us to its series.  The result was an attendance of 379 racers, up from 237 in 2003.  Results are here.  Some pictures are here.
